Have you seen this BBC mini-series, starring Richard Armitage and Daniela Denby-Ashe?
It was released in 2004, but I saw it this past week for the first time. For the record, I would not be posting this if I didn't find it absolutely superb. Abby & Makayla have thankfully and successful persuaded me to watch it.
It has been the only remotely interesting series that I can watch Post-Downton. Has Downton Abbey wrecked all the other TV shows for you too?
Okay, so if you are yet to be convinced to watch North & South, allow me to ask these questions few of you.
Do you enjoy mysterious, brooding gentlemen in fine attire?
Can you handle prolonged glares without any dialogue from mysterious, brooding gentlement in fine attire as they peer out factory windows? (Warning: This happens A LOT! I'm not even kidding...like AT LEAST 3 or 4 times per episode.)
Have you cried during the following: Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Jane Eyre, Becoming Jane, Anne of Green Gables, Downton Abbey, Bleak House, Little Dorrit, and/or Cranford?
Do sweeping, melodramatic orchestral compositions cause you to swoon?
Are you an extreme, hopeless romantic?
Are you an extreme, hopeless romantic?
If you have been indifferent to my questions, then please avoid this series. I would imagine that you would want nothing to do with it. But if you were enthusiastically screaming, "YUP!" in response you can easily find the series on Netflix or your local library.
from mmorrow: period films &c
I just love these images from mmorrow. Have you been to mmorrow yet? They have the best screen captures!
Well, if you watch this based on my recommendation, I'd love to know what you think of it!
I saw this! :-) Again...great!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear you concur!
DeleteJana! No joking, Downton was mentioned in one of my classes the other day. I was instantly like, "I think Jana would enjoy this lecture..." Hahaha! Hope all is well! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! I bet I would have too! What did they say about Downton?
DeleteIt was about the historical significance of one of the episodes... Did they have a phone installed in the house? If so, that's the episode they were talking about.
DeleteOh, my goodness...this had me laughing out loud! "Brooding men peering out factory windows...." Hilarious! What is it that is so attractive about mysterious, brooding men in period literature/film? Mr. Darcy, Mr. Thornton...?
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Downton has ruined all TV and movies for me. I found the only thing that I enjoyed enough to watch after season 1 was Cranford and Return to Cranford; both great recommendations from you!
Makayla
PS Isn't Bates (Brenden Coyle) in this one or am I thinking of another program?
Yep! Bates is definitely in it...so is Cassandra from Becoming Jane...she was in South Riding and Bleak House too. I don't know why I don't know her name yet.
DeleteOh, and let's not forget the ultimate mysterious, brooding gentlemen in fine attire, Mr. Edward Fairfax Rochester. ;)
