Browsing

Is it just me or do they both have really intense eye brows?

When it was announced earlier this week that former American Idol contestants, Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young were an item, I was wondering if they were just drawn to each other because they have similar brows. I mean, let's hope there's more to their relationship than their weekly visit to the salon for their tandem brow waxing.

It's not just my imagination, right? They're both rocking severe arches somewhat comparable to the Gateway Arch in St. Louis.

Who am I to talk? I've been called Spock before (Thanks, Dad.) so it's not like I have the authority to rip on them and their happy arches.

If we're talking eyebrows, I would have to say the best brows in the biz belong to the following:

Keira Knightley- I would love to have Keira eyebrows. Unfortunately, any attempt to imitate these brows results in my mother uttering the dreaded phrase, "Jana, your eyebrows are TOO dark." Therefore, my Keira-esque brows will remain a pipe dream.

Elijah Wood - He may own the most expressive in Hollywood. I find his brows absolutely adorable and sincere. "Oh, Sam."

Robert Downey, Jr. - His entire essence is steeped in the confident, yet verging-on-the-brink-of-arrogant brow. Plus, he can raise one at a time. ARG!!! WHY CAN'T I DO THAT?!?!!

Without his brows, I no longer understand him or recognize him for that matter. See for yourself. Who is this guy?
To see RDJ and other celebrities sans brows visit the blog celebswithouteyebrows. (Michelle Dockery is a hoot!)

Michael Fassbender - I swear he was born with additional muscles in his eyebrows allowing him to make the most intriguing facials features. For real, next time you are watching one of his movies, notice his brows. You will be amazed. The line, "Do you ever laugh, Miss Eyre?" is a succinct demonstration of his brilliant and dexterous brow ability! (It's not in the scene that is represented below. Although, his brows are marvelous in this scene as well, if I may so myself.)
I would even say Fassbender's brows deserve their own credit.

John Krasinski - If I am being entirely honest, Jim Halpert's eyebrows are the real reason The Office is my favourite TV show. They are imperative to his impeccable comedic timing.
Gromit - Modelled after Buster Keaton, Gromit doesn't talk, therefore he relies heavily on his evocative brow. Oddly enough, I have always found Jim Halpert to be a little like Gromit. Can anyone else see the resemblance?

Then we have our Brows of Honourable Mention:
Hugh Grant - especially in Bridget Jones's Diary. They are nothing short of devious.
Adrian Brody - His brows make me melt.
Brooke Shields - Any list categorizing famous eyebrows would be incomplete without mentioning Ms. Shields. After all, they are her signature feature.

I am sure I have failed to include many iconic brows (Bert, Martin Scorsese, Groucho Marx, etc...)Who would you suggest I list?

Oh, and let's not forget this guy:

'Til next time.

Live long and prosper.

The Continuation of 'They Make Cakes'

So I have these two friends, Katie & Becca. They make cakes. They're dynamic!

After creating an eye-catching, delectable cake for Becca's brother-in-law,
they were hired to make a cake for a 50th birthday party held at the newly restored Clyde Iron Works.

The birthday guy loves his Harley, so they made him one and I got to help!

I'm hoping these pictures aren't too heinous. They were taken on my crappy phone.

I was honored that they asked me to help. I've always veered away from anything pertaining to the kitchen, but I can't resist making things out of straws. So they had my devotion for a few hours on the terms that we would be able to listen to Earth, Wind, & Fire, The Bee Gees, and an excessive amount of the The Spice Girls.

I had forgotten how much I love building minitures out of straws. I had a doll house when I was younger and I made the furniture out of all sorts of straws and marbles. I'll show you some time.

We worked on this all through the night. Everyone was slap happy.
I couldn't stop saying, "May I smell your fingers?". (It's from that stupid Ford Focus commercial with Doug.) And Becca kept on pretending to see things outside in the woods, which gets me everytime.

I happen to love green frosting. So I'm really wishing I could have had a piece of this right about now.
The road actually looked like pavement. Like you could literally get road rash.

There was a debate over a few stones and whether or not they slightly resembled feces. That had to have been around 4 or 5. They all look like perfectly normal frosting rocks to me now.
I'm so impressed by the Harley logo! I know the perfectionist in Katie was letting loose. Great result!

This bike was made for Gromit...or Wallace.

Couldn't you picture it? We'd need a decent side-car though...

Oh yeah, and Happy Birthday, Mike!

The Ultimate Button

I turned the corner and my eyes beheld the most glorious button known to mankind. This button was ever so shiny, slightly indented and precisely the perfect shade of red with enough depth to deliver a delightful and satisfying push.

I found the ultimate button.

This little guy was just screaming to be pushed. How could I not? I am but one frail girl.

Yet this lone, unlabeled button could set off a multitude of destruction. It could trigger the alarm system or activate all the sprinklers in the building. It could alert the authorities, or worse the Gilbertron 2000.  Or perhaps it could simultaneously flush all the toilets at once--which in the words of Kelly Kapour, "would be AMAZING!"

Or maybe it could cause the women's room in which it was located to self-destruct...

Or maybe this button ejects the escape pod that contains 2 droids with information pertinent to the survival of the rebellion and the stolen plans for a weapon of mass destruction, a space battle station, if I may.

Or maybe it would just deploy a parachute or some kind of weather balloon...which may have another helpless little 8 year old boy hiding out, thinking that he only wanted to make a fort and before he knows it, he's sailing high above the earth at 15,000 ft...

Or maybe this button would lead to some nuclear reactor power plant, and because of some fluke, the glass dome that prevents it from being pushed accidentally shattered and Homer Simpson, who is entrusted to make sure that no one pushes it, called in sick for the day.

I knew I've seen a button like this before. In Wallace and Gromit: A Close Shave there is a button identical to this and it activates a machine that hurls Wallace's breakfast through the air. If I were to push this supreme button would a bowl full of porridge come flying through the air and beam me in the head? And would it malfunction as it did in the film? Would I not be able to deactivate the button once it is pressed?
I thought, "Alright Jana, let's get realistic here. If something terrible happens, they will dust the button for fingerprints and you'll be screwed. They'll know it was you."

As I stood there, confoundedly contemplating my fate, moving on to what it would be like in prison and if I could pull off wearing that obnoxious orange 24/7...someone walked by and pressed the darn thing. You know what it does?

The same thing this does.

Yep. It opens a door. The End.

What would you have wanted it to do?
