I just noticed that ever single talk show I can think of seats the guests on the host's right-the viewer's left.

Why is this?
Is it proven that we prefer viewing people on their right side?
Does that make it more interesting?
Or is that the way that works best and that we recognize as normal?


I try not to miss these guests when they appear on these particular shows.

Barrymore on Fallon...

Downey Jr. on Leno...Who am I kidding, it doesn't matter who the host is, RDJ is always a reliable interview.

OP! Wait, Rosie's guests sat on her left. This switched throughout the seasons though, because there were some images with the guests on the other side.

This may be my favourite interview of all time...It happened this time of year when I was in 7th grade. It changed my life.Can you find any other examples of guests on the right of the screen? Who is your favourite celebrity to watch on a talk show?

Hatch Show Print

Back in the day when I worked at Guitar Center, we would post advertisements for upcoming concerts at the one and only Ryman Auditorium. These weren't just any ol' posters though. They were products of Hatch Show Print. Works of art. Anybody who was anybody would play the Ryman and it would be a special occasion. So the poster for such an event had to be timeless and memorable. Letterpressed.

The Hatch Show Print shop was located in downtown Nashville. There you could watch these posters come to life. The artists that worked on these posters were incredible. Daring. It takes guts to move with ease as you carve away at linoleum with a Speedball chisel. One mistake and you have to start from the beginning. Ah, but great mistakes make great art.

SO our Guitar Center would have one poster for every concert. One poster.

I swear employees would call dibs on these posters before they were even pinned to the corkboard.

I remember the torture of knowing that the My Morning Jacket or Norah Jones poster were within my grasp, yet were promptly spoken for.

Of course I let everyone know that I had eternal dibs (if that even exists) on any Bryan Adams poster that would grace the board. Although he never played Nashville while I lived there, I intend to own this one someday, Lord willing.

But at least I can relish in the victory of scoring the Patty Griffin poster, as well as a few other gems which adorn my walls to this day.

This concert never even took place. I believe Ms. Spektor cancelled due to a case of vertigo.  

I actually got to see this one which was amazing. Shawn Colvin's These Four Walls is a great album.

I just love all the detail.

Then my lovely friend, Sarah S. gave me this Mraz poster for my birthday.  I think I ran up and down the stairs, not knowing what to do with myself! Great gift!

I guess I've always been drawn to this style. I've enjoyed making a linoleum print or two over the years.  My little album cover is even a take on the art form.

Then there was my concept for a t-shirt with a play on the popular musical venue, combined with a flare for Ms. Austen. I just can't find the motivation to carve the stage coach...someday. 

I made this during my Celine phase. It may be one of my favourite projects to date.

And I had to create my baby. She was probably 40 lbs. lighter here though.

My Aunt Lori (Hi Aunt Lori!) actually had this framed at one time.

And this was a fun project.

I can't wait to work on another print. And who knows, maybe someday, I'll actually get to make one for a concert!

Highlights for me-

I loved how Hathaway & Franco appeared in the nominated movies. Very Billy Crystal...and Hello, Back to the Future!

Robert Downey, Jr. & Jude Law presenting together. The Sherlock Holmes fan in me was going crazy during this segment.

Anne Hathaway's song. Although, it was slightly awkward because she was trying to guilt Hugh Jackman, but it was still one of the better portions of the show.

Celine singing "Smile" and not over-embellishing it. "K.I.S.S.- Keep it simple, stupid."- Dwight Schrute
I especially appreciated this because Gloria Stuart was being honored. After all, I've always been a Titanic enthusiast.

The fact that Christian Bale & Colin Firth won. I was definitely routing for both of them. Especially Christian Bale because this was his first nomination. I was shocked when I learned that he had been continually snubbed in the past.

And, I was in love with the set. The scene that stood out to me was when The Lord of the Rings display was on and the script on the One Ring arched over the stage. So gorgeous!

Why I Love The Oscars

I haven't missed the pièce de résistance of the award season since 7th grade. Those would have been the 70th Academy Awards. Titanic swept all the top honors that year... Celine infamously beat her chest which was adorned with the multi-million dollar "La Coeur De La Mer" during her performance of the now overplayed, sad FM anthem. That night Matt and Ben became house hold names and Billy Crystal set the bar as host. I fell in love with the fashions and movie montages, the red carpet and the tearful/quirky speeches. The thrill of it all.

Twelve years later, I still love every bit of it. These were the highlights of last night's show for me:

 - Neil Patrick Harris. He was wonderful hosting the Emmy's. Equally enjoyable during the Opening Number. Who wrote the song? I've gotta know. So clever.Gave me chills.

-  Loved the set!  It looked like it was inspired by "Top Hat" or "Follow the Fleet".

- Martin & Baldwin were simply hilarious. I still don't get the "Precious... living up to its video game" joke...did anyone? It's okay though cause the "Oh, Look! There's that Damn Helen Mirren!" and the double Snuggie made up for it.

- Robert Downey, Jr.  I loved how his bow-tie & glasses matched his wife's dress and how he still made an appearance even though he was snubbed this year. What's not to love ;)

- Sandra Bullock. Glamourous. Poised. Real. And she could even make Jesse James cry.

- The John Hughes Tribute. Mattie Brodrick's appreciation for him brought tears to my eyes. Oh and Macaulay Culkin who seems to be forever nine.

- I missed that the original songs weren't performed in their entirety, but at least they weren't all performed by Beyonce once again ;)

-And I can't leave out the company. I was able to watch it this year for the first time with dear friends I've know since middle school. It was so great when we would gasp and comment on the same things...not to mention, the food and beverages were superb! We provided our own version of the Governors Ball. Thank you Makayla & Sara!

My votes for BEST DRESSED: Rachel McAdams, Cameron Diaz, Kristen Stewart, Susan Downey, & Sandra Bullock

WORST DRESSED: Barbra Streisand, Carey Mulligan, Tina Fey, Miley Cyrus, &  Melanie Griffith.
