2014 Golden Globes Best & Worst Dressed / Kelly Kapour Story Hour

Blogging about the Golden Globes that were on last night is definitely not on my "Goals To Accomplish Today" list, but I seriously can't get anything done with all these Red Carpet slide shows distracting me. Let's face it, today may be my least productive day ever.

These are the actresses that made my BEST DRESSED LIST:

Olivia Wilde...She's not my favourite actress (I guess she was fine in "Cowboys and Aliens"--alright, I can't lie, I wasn't paying attention to her when Daniel Craig was on the screen...or off the screen come to that.), but I'm obsessed with this dark emerald/hunter green colour right now. Plus it has crystals and sequins, so it instantly becomes a winner in my book.

Lupita Nyong’o of "12 Years a Slave" in Ralph Lauren. She is striking. I need to see this movie. Have any of my readers seen it? I'm afraid I've heard mixed reviews and I'm certain I'll absolutely hate Michael Fassbender after I see it (which I'm not in any hurry to feel that way), but now that it has won the Globe for Best Drama, I believe a trip to the cinema is a must.

 This is Lizzy Caplan. Her dress didn't get a grade on yahoo, but I thought it was really different and incredibly interesting. Also, I secretly hope her bolero jacket is made out of mithril and was given to her by Elves.

 This is Jenna Dewan also known as Mrs. Channing Tatum. I know I'm partial to the mermaid cut and tend to show favouritism towards those dresses, but even you have to admit that this is a stunning dress. Her styling is spot on for me. I even love her geometric, elongated earrings.

 And, Kate Beckinsale obviously gets my best dressed of the night award. I wouldn't shut up when she presented. It was really annoying. I even love her chignon. Gorgeous!

Alright, on to the WORST DRESSED LIST:

*SHOCK!!!* "GASP!!!" I can hear your shrieks from here! How could I have the audacity to include America's newly crowned sweetheart, Jennifer Lawrence among the worst dressed?!?!?

 Here's why:

I don't think you can be a child of the 80's and not see the resemblance. Oh, but I still love her as an actress and have a feeling she'll be as prolific and poignant as Meryl Streep. She still looked great, but I couldn't shake the song, "Part of Your World" everytime I saw her during the telecast.

And then there was this disaster. Paula Patton is gorgeous, but as Makayla S. so appropriately remarked, "Oh, that's pretty [if] that giant piece of extra fabric wasn't attacking you." I'm not sure if she was referring to Mrs. Blurred Lines Thicke, but it does look like she is getting eaten by a giant clam.

 Modern Family's Sarah Hyland is a really sharp dresser on the television show, but who ever is her stylist in real life needs to be fired...even if that person is her. Listen, the dress is pretty and I love dark eyebrows, but they didn't work together. I could see her eyebrows in a sea of celebrities. Maybe she wanted to stand out...or maybe she was just feeling a like little Frieda.

Need I say more.

 Congratulations Haley Cuoco on your recent marriage! In other news, the Golden Globes IS NOT YOUR HIGH SCHOOL PROM!

 I love Sandra Bullock. Really I do. But why am I picturing Sea World when I look at this dress? She was at the top of all the best dressed lists leading up to this. What atrocity occurred? Why Sandra, Why?!

X-cellent Posters

As devoted readers of LaPine Design can attest, I love movie posters. I have a hard time resisting them whenever they hand  them out at theatres or video stores (another one of Red Box's shortcomings), and I probably have 50 or so rolled up in my closet...just in case I should ever need them.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of X-Men (What do their fans call themselves? X-meners? Mutants?), I stopped dead in my tracks upon seeing these brilliant designs. It also didn't hurt that I'm absolutely obsessed with the ultimate bromance between James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender! Could they BE any hotter?!? 

SO brilliant!!!

And, just because I can, I'm going to post my favourite McAvoy and Fassbender moment...for now.

So you know, there are few videos on youtube that can hold a candle to this.

Happy Birthday, Mimi & Michael!

How fortunate is Michael Fassbender? He gets to share his birthday with my lovely friend, Miriam!
For years Miriam has expressed that she did not have an interesting celebrity-birthday twin.

Then again, it can be argued that Eugen Sandow and Clement Ader are pretty dang interesting depending on who you ask.

It's gotta be tough when I'm over here, bragging about how I share my day with the likes of Britney Spears, Georges Seurat, Brendan Coyle (Mr.Bates on Downton Abbey), and ahem, Sherlock Holmes (Don't worry, it'll catch on in no time.).

Eugen Sandow and Clement Ader just don't have the same "brag factor."

But finally, we all saw a little film called Jane Eyre around this time last year.  I can safely say it changed my life, but it also introduced us to this Irish gentleman: Michael Fassbender.

He had been in Band of Brothers, Inglorious Basterds, Hunger, Fishtank, A Bear Called Winnie (Seriously, how did I miss that?), and oh so many other films before he appeared on my Jandar (It's pretty much the same thing as a radar...just without the obnoxious sonar bleeps)...Well, it was a pleasant surprise when we learned that this new Byronic hero, the topic of many a conversation, was born on April 2nd!

Huzzah! Alas, a celebrity twin that Miriam could potentially throw a double birthday bash with!

So, to my friend on her special day,

 Mirma, have an extraordinary birthday! You are remarkably radiant inside and out and it is an absolute pleasure to call you my friend!

Golden Globes | Best & Worst

The Golden Globes were so last Sunday. This I know. But people wouldn't call me Kelly Kapoor if I failed to acknowledge celebrities and their red carpet fashion statements.

And we wouldn't want them to stop that now would we?

To preserved my illustrious title, I present to you my selections for Best & Worst dressed.

Best

"OOOOEEEE!!!!! JAY!!!!!" Sophia! Great choice in colour and cut! I just am over the moon for this dress!

 Angelina, Bravo! This dress left me wondering if I'd seen it before, but then I felt like I had never seen anything like it.  You are old world glamour, yet constantly pushing the envelope...wait a second!!! That's where I've seen this before...

Paula Patton! Mission Accomplished! I can tell you've been hanging around Mr. Cruise lately. His intensity is evident by this bold colour choice. Though your confidence is your greatest fashion accessory!

Evan Rachel Wood, I'm not going to lie. I'm not a big fan, but this dress is stunning. It's like a mermaid with a peacock feather tail. Gorgeous!

Kate Beckinsale, Your entire look was a twist on the classic. Your earrings cinched the deal to be listed amongst my best dressed.

Worst

...which really aren't that bad.

Ms. Streep, I'm sorry, this wasn't your night. You may have won, but I was incredibly embarrassed for you during your speech. Though I thank you for thanking Mia Wasikowska for her performance in Jane Eyre even though she wasn't even nominated. A question for you: Did you leave your glasses in the other room while you picked this out?

 Zooey, why didn't you wear something vintage as you always do? This looked too much like a tuxedo shirt for me. Go vintage or go home.

 Frieda Pinto, Motel 6 called. They want their turquoise bed spread back.

Portman, I still can't get over your awkward acceptance speech from last year. I wish you would try a style other than strapless.

Oh, Michael. I really wanted you on the best side of this list. Unfortunately you look like you should squeak while you walk. Therefore you are on the wrong side of the fashion fence. I know you'll be nominated for an Oscar, so here's to second chances.

It wasn't until just recently that I discovered that the DVD's that I own all happen to be period films.  I stumbled upon these splendid images and couldn't resist reposting. Aren't they grand? They inspire me so much and are making me ever so antsy to get my computer back.  I never thought I'd say this, but I actually miss my Photoshop.
